Chicken Drumsticks with Hoisin and Soy Sauce

I had 5 drumsticks left in my freezer last week. However, I was not into making complicated food. So, I decided to marinade the drumsticks for couple hours and then baked them. The question then became what marinade I should use. I decided to make my own marinade recipe. So, a new recipe was created. I decided to name it Chicken Drumsticks with Hoisin and Soy Sauce.

If you are not familiar with hoisin sauce, it is thick and tastes sweet and slighty salty. That's why I mixed the sauce with soy sauce. You can find it in Asian stores. Some of the regular grocery stores sell it in the Asian section.

Ingredients:

  • 5 chicken drumsticks
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (can add more or less depending on your tolerance to heat)
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 6 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 2 tablespoons mirin
  • 1 lime
  • 1/4 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds

Methods:

  1. Combine all marinade ingredients (garlic powder, ginger, vegetable oil, red pepper flakes, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, pepper, fish sauce, mirin, and juice of 1 lime) in a ziploc bag.
  2. Add chicken drumstick to the marinade ingredients. Mix them well with the marinade and leave them for 3 hours.
  3. Turn on the oven to 400 deg.
  4. Bake the drumsticks on baking sheet lined with Al foil for easy clean up after baking. Rotate them halfway through baking, about 25 min. It takes about 45 min to fully cook them or until the internal temperature reaches 180 deg.
  5. Once they finish cooking, take them out of the oven and sprinkle them with toasted sesame seeds.
